2015 Favorites - Skincare

If I had to make the choice between makeup and skincare, I would without a doubt choose skincare 100% of the time. This may seem a little odd for someone who is obsessed with makeup, but let me explain.

Makeup is temporary. It can be applied, changed, washed off, and applied again. But your skin is your skin, you're stuck with it. You can't simply wash off blemishes and erase hyper pigmentation. Although if someone creates this, please give me a call and I will give you all the money! You get my point though. Makeup should be something that you wear for fun to change up your look, not something you have to wear in order to feel confident enough to walk out the front door. If you take immaculate care of your skin, not only will your makeup look so much better, but makeup can become an option, not a necessity.

Before I hop into things here is a little background on my skin. My skin is normal to dry. If it is well taken care of, I can avoid dry patches and irritation. It tends to be quite acne prone if I put a product on it that it doesn't like. It also has the same response if I don't wash my makeup off at the end of the day. The reason I want you to understand my skin is because everyone's skin reacts differently to different products and it is important to get to know the ingredients and treatment your skin likes. So these products that work great for me may not be so great on someone else. However these products are pretty universal on what skin types they work well with, so if I had to make a guess, you will love them as much as I do!

These four products I could not live without. They have worked wonders on my skin. If you look inside my cupboard at any given time, I promise you will find all of these in there.

If you haven't heard of the Clarisonic, I don't know where you have been hiding! In case you are one of the few people who don't know what this is, let me tell you. The Clarisonic is a facial cleansing brush. Its bristles osculates so quickly that it is hard for the naked eye to see. No (Dad!) that does not mean that it isn't moving at all, it's just super duper fast. This helps to loosen up the makeup and dirt on your skin and even the old gunk stuck deep inside your pores. Lovely I know. Basically this gets your skin so clean that there is nothing left over to irritate the skin and cause breakouts. Although everyone has heard about this I don't think a lot of people have purchased it because of it's hefty price tag. While it is more pricey than other facial brushes, there is a reason for that. I asked for a Clarisonic Mia for Christmas about 3 years ago and it has been the most used gift of all time! It may help you justify splashing out the cash if you treat yourself for a birthday or Christmas, or St. Patrick's Day, or a half birthday, or maybe because its a Monday. Trust me, you deserve to spoil yourself with this!

Makeup wipes have taken the skincare world by storm, and for a good reason. They are convenient, especially on the nights that you just 'can't even'. I have a lot of those nights, which is why I covet the 'Simple Facial Cleansing Wipes'. As I mentioned before, my skin can be quite a moody queen, and when I've tried other brands of makeup wipes my skin sometimes gets sore and irritated. Not with these little buddies, my skin feels calm and nourished. They even remove waterproof mascara like a dream. (See my 2015 Favorites - Makeup for my beloved waterproof mascara). Not only is my skin sensitive, but my eyes are even more so. If so much as a particle of dust lands on my eye, my eye will water like a fire hose all day. I'm pretty sure I've wiped my bare eyeball with these dozens of times and it doesn't even phase me. A+, Simple, A+.

After the Clarisonic cleared up the majority of my blemishes, my next concern to tackle was redness on my cheeks. I tried plenty of different serums and creams designed especially for that issue, but nothing seemed to make a difference. After wandering aimlessly through the skincare aisles at Sephora feeling very sorry for myself, the salesman recommended I try the Ole Henrikson Nurture Me moisturizer. This moisturizer is geared towards sensitive skin and rosacea. It contains lots of vitamins and yummy (for your skin, not your tummy) ingredients that help soothe and calm irritated skin. After using this for several weeks, I was pleasantly surprised when I realized my redness was gone! Not only that, but my skin looked so radiant and healthy and better than it had before. I am on my third jar of this stuff and will probably go through 9488 jars before I die. Side note: It smells like orange creamsicles, enough said.

Something horrible has happened! During my traveling for the holidays I have LOST my moisturizer! So I borrowed this photo from fancieland.com who also has a review on this product!
Let's finish up with something that I am sure will work wonders for any skin type. It's The Body Shop Honey and Oat 3 in 1 Cleansing Scrub Mask. I don't think they made the name long enough. Lets forgive the ridiculously long name, because this mask is the mask of all masks. Just smear the mask all over your skin and leave it for about 20 minutes. It suggests to only leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, but because it isn't a mask that dries, I like to leave it on so my skin has lots of time to soak in all the hydration it can. When you're finished, wet your hands and gently massage the mask off. It has whole oats in it so they will work on all the dead skin and leave your face smoother than a babies bottom. Probably not cuter, but smoother. I know this to be true because I spend the majority of my day pinching one. I worked at The Body Shop for almost a year and I sold this product more than anything else. I never had a single person tell me that they didn't like it, in fact many came back to tell me how much they loved it and purchased another as a backup or gift. This is such a lovely mask, I know you will love it.

    1. I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment until now! That's actually a really good idea, i'll make sure and link them from now on! I'll edit the post to include the links so you can go find them! But the Clarisonic you can buy a whole lot of different places, like Ulta, Sephora, Dillards, Nordstrom, and lots of places online. The Ole Henrikson moisturizer is at Sephora and i'm pretty sure Ulta carries it too. The Simple face wipes you can get literally anywhere! Any drugstore, or ulta. And then The Body Shop mask is just at The Body Shop! I know Ulta carries some of their things but I don't think they carry the mask. Since there isn't really a Body Shop near us anymore go online and they always have amazing sales!
